Discover Weipa the exotic location in Far North Queensland Australia

Phil & Christine Rettke's Honeymoon Day 6

G'day everyone!! Welcome aboard again for the next instalment of our journey.
We woke early today, 5.30am!! After a trip out to the sand dunes yesterday afternoon a sunrise was a must for us!! After packing everything up, securing it and warming the Patrol, we left the Coopers Cabins at Windorah. A very nice spot with everything the weary traveller could need. I would definitely stay there again. We reached the sand dunes pretty quick, so still being dark I set up a light and I whipped up a quick breaky snack, some Coco Pops and juice. With a full belly, camera and tripod in hand, we kicked off our thongs and proceeded up the cool sand of the dunes. As the sun started to rise, the cloud overhead started to light up wonderfully. Next thing I knew, I was screaming "WOOHOOO, MACKERAL SKY!!!"

How to get the most from your icebox! Get the maximum performance!

On my recent trip to Fraser Island, it came to my attention that there are many differing opinions in how to best use your icebox, esky or chilly bin.   This created a lengthy heated discussion, with everyone there adamant that their method was the best, no dispute.   In the end we agreed to disagree and moved on and continued relaxing.
This is a Waeco Cool-Ice Icebox very popular in the outdoor market.

Phil & Christine Rettke's Honeymoon Day 5

As dawn broke over Lochern National Park, we rose to be greeted by a whole different landscape than the day before.  The morning light and brilliant blues had transformed the Thomson River into quite the sight. The cloud still didn't want to play the game, but all the same it was still a magnificent landscape.

Phil & Christine Rettke's Honeymoon Day 4

Up early and with little to pack we enjoyed a comfortable breakfast in our cabin at Barcaldine while listening to the parrots chatter in the tree behind us. As there was no cloud in the sky we gave the sunrise a miss and took our time leaving Barky. I mean it was only 110kms to Longreach and we didn't need to be there until 9.30am. An easy drive!! We headed West on the Landsborough Hwy (Matilda Way) and about 20 minutes in we passed the first cop car since Ipswich. About 2 minutes later we stumbled upon this beauty, a very cool windmill!

Phil & Christine Rettke's Honeymoon Day 3

We woke early to a brisk morning, we had some breakfast (I think I had Coco Pops) and then proceeded to pack up camp. The sun was just rising as we wheeled out of Nev Hewitt Weir Picnic Area. Overall not a bad place to camp, maybe a 2 1/2 out of 5-star place, very self sufficient, reasonably quiet, good toilets but not overly scenic.. Just as we were leaving we spotted a pair of Tawny Frogmouth Owls in a tree on the side of the road. Quiet a cute couple, catching some morning warmth.
