Coleman Hot Water on Demand Vs Companion Aquacube Logic Vs Companion Aquacube Digital

There are currently three primary choices of portable hot water systems available on the market today.  They are the:
All of these hot water systems work in the same way to produce the hot water.  They all use a small pump to pull the water through copper piping where a gas burner is heating up the water.  They are all very good, and for this reason are available from Tentworld camping stores.

This gas burner is adjustable, to allow for you to adjust the temperature to what you require.

However, there are some slight differences in them that will appeal to different people.  The advantages of each unit are:

Coleman Hot Water on Demand

The Coleman Hot Water on Demand, is able to put more heat water to a higher temperature.  This is particularly handy for those who like to wash dishes in very hot water.  The Coleman HWOD is able to get the water up to around 70 degrees.  Generally people prefer to shower in water temperatures ranging from 30 degrees to 42.

The Coleman Hot Water system runs from a rechargeable battery, and can be recharged from 12v or 240v.

The Coleman Hot Water system is built into a plastic case, and uses error lights to communicate and errors it may be having such as over temperature etc.

Companion Aquacube Logic

The Aquacube Logic has a rechargeable battery built into it.  However, if this rechargeable battery is flat it is able to be run directly from 240v or 12v until you have a chance to recharge it.

The Aquacube Logic, is able to produce a maximum temperature of up to 47 degrees, any higher and a safety switch will turn the unit off.  This temperature range is perfect for showering, and general use.  It also appeals to many with younger families, knowing that their childen cannot burn themselves.

There are two water oulets on the Companion Aquacube Logic.  One is set up to simulate a hot water tap, for filling buckets the other is an outlet for  also offers two water outlets, one which simulates a hot water tap and another for connecting the shower hose to.

The Aquacube Logic, also comes as standard with the shower hose as well as the carry bag.  These are extras for the Coleman though can be often purchased together in a package deal.

There are two temperature displays on the Aquacube Logic.  One for the hot water temperature read out, the other to tell you how how the water is thats entering the system to be heated.

Physically the Companion Aquacube Logic is smaller, and lighter (9.3kgs Vs 10.5kgs)

The Aquacube Logic uses error codes on the digital screen to communicate any errors it may be having, such as over temperature etc.

Companion Aquacube Digital

The Companion Aquacube Digital Hot Water Shower

The Aquacube Digital, is similar to the Aquacube Logic except that it does not have a rechargeable battery and can only operate from 12v.  This is seen as being advantageous by some people, who prefer not to have to look after rechargeable batteries.

Similar to the Aquacube Logic, the Aquacube Digital features a digital temperature display for the hot water.  There is however, no temperature read out for the incoming cold water.

The Aquacube Digital is also lighter than the Coleman or Logic at 6kgs.

Hopefully,  this information will help you in making your comparison & review of the Coleman Hot Water on Demand Vs Companion Aquacube Logic Vs Companion Aquacube Digital

Get the most out of your ENGEL car fridge.

One of the most desired accessories to deck out any four wheel drive, is a fridge.

In Australia, this is often an ENGEL fridge.  They are well proven in Australia and are known to be reliable and consume very little power.

There are a few ways to get the most out of your Engel fridge however, they are:
The Engel MT45 has been a favourite for decades!

1:  Consider a battery dedicated to running your fridge.  Adding a dedicated battery to running your fridge, and other camping accessories will mean that you can stay in one place for longer and know that your food will stay cold.

2:  Always fill your fridge.  If you keep your fridge full, it will operate most efficiently in this way.

3:  If you're wanting to stay in one place, and not run your car to charge your battery.  You may want to get some alternative method of charging.   The two most common methods, are solar power and charging with a generator.

5 Reasons to go camping!

I dont need a reason to go camping, but here are a few reasons why I love camping.  These reasons are ranked in no particular order.

Best method for storing meat while travelling!

The most convenient and effective method of storing meat safely when traveling and camping is by using vacuum sealed meat packs sometimes known as cryovac (a brand of vacuum sealer).

This meat can safely be kept under refrigeration or in the icebox, which is much more power efficient than freezing your meat.

TIP:  Vacuum seal your meat into single meal sized portions.

What camping trip can be without a BBQ!

11 tips to control your destiny when going camping.

One of the best things with camping is that you're in control of your destiny.  You control if you're going to have a good time, or a bad time.

When camping you don't have to rely on restaurants to give good service, or the beds to be comfortable at the hotel.

When you're camping, you rely on yourself to ensure that you have good tasting food, a comfortable bed and warm shelter.  You choose your degree of comfort and the location!

It's hard not to have a good time when the weather is like this. Just add sunscreen!

Hot water made easy, using the Companion AquaCube Logic!

The Companion Aquacube Logic has been available now from Tentworld for around a month.  Talk about hitting the market by storm!  We've had trouble keeping this one on the shelves any longer than a few days.
After a tough days fishing, it's good to be able to wash off the scales from all the fish you've caught with hot water. Or if you're like me, just the salt water, because you caught nothing.
There is a lot to be said for having readily available hot water when camping.  In many instances, it's the difference between having a shower or not.

How long will my fridge go on gas?

Gas fridges or 3 way fridges are some of the most popular fridges in the market today.  They're the perfect solution for someone wanting to set up a base camp in the one location for several weeks.

Imagine spending several weeks in a remote tropical location.  This is possible with a Chescold RC1180.
One of the most popular 3 way gas fridge models in Australia, is the Dometic Chescold RC1180.  Three way fridges get their name by their ability to run from three different power sources - Mains (240v), DC (12/24v) and gas.

Places I want to go camping!

Working at Tentworld, I'm pretty fortunate to always be talking to customers who are about to go on their next holiday.  Often customers will also come back after their holiday, with great stories to tell about their latest adventure as their picking up different items to add to their collection.

So many times, customers tell me of amazing places they've been camping, and I've forgotten a lot.  So now, I'm saving them all here so I have a good repository of places that have been recommended to me and places that I've enjoyed that I want to revisit.
  • Lady Musgrave Island North QLD - right on the reef, no facilities aside from drop toilets.  Limit of 40 campers at any one time.  It seems as though going camping here would be similar to being in your own version of Survivor! Q&A - Should I discharge gas from the line in between uses?

Question

Hi Jon,

Hope it is alright to email you. I have only been getting your emails for a little while, but wonder if you ever address questions from people.

One thing I would like to know is whether I should let the gas out of the line after finishing using my camping stove, or should I leave it in there and keep the line pressurised. The same question probably applies to home barbecues. If there is a preferred option, what are the reasons for it.
